This blog is part of my Outreachy internship with Mozilla. I'll detail my progress here from time to time.
I found out about Outreachy completely by accident. Earlier in the year I made a conscious effort to start looking for projects on GitHub to contribute to, and told a few of my friends about this amazing world of open source. One very smart friend (certainly smarter than me!) googled "open source scholarships" and forwarded me the link to the Outreachy website.
I checked the timezone information and discovered that applications were going to close in less than 12 hours. It was now or never. I scrambled together an application and submitted it, eagerly awaiting if I would be accepted into the initial round. It turns out that so many people applied this year that the organisers had to delay announcing the results twice to enable them to review all the applications.
Miraculously, I was accepted and was able to start viewing project information and choose which projects to contribute to. I chose three: two of these were so popular that they closed to new applications within 48 hours. I contributed to two projects, and in the end decided to apply to just the one - the one I eventually got.
